Title:
Architectural Louvers
Division 10
Presented by Lee Seaman
Specifying and selecting the wrong
Louver can be costly.
What does a Louver do?
Rain Defense - Letting air into the building while keeping the elements out has
always been the design challenge for louvers. Conventional louvers
are not effective at preventing water from entering the space.
Design improvements have allowed for Storm Resistant louvers to
provide the maximum amount of weather defense.
Airflow - Airfow is the primary function of a louver. Simply evaluating the
free area of a louver is not sufficient in calculating the actual
volume of air through the system. Calculations must consider the
pressure drop that occurs as the air moves through the blade system
and there are tools available to help with the calculation of the
actual air volume
Aesthetics - Whether the louvers are a design accent or if they are intended to
disappear into the facade of the building, there are model options
available. Models offer a variety of colors, textures profiles and
shapes to accommodate any project.
There is 1 learning unit and 1 HSW
credit.
