Straw Wattles
or Logs by Earth Saver |
 |
|
Straw Wattle
Erosion control and Sediment Retention Wattles (ESW) or Slope
Interruption Devices (SID) commonly known as Wattles, are
elongated tubes of compacted straw and/or other fibers that are
installed along contours or at the base of slopes to help reduce
soil erosion and retain sediment. They function by shortening
slope length, reducing runoff water velocity, trapping dislodged
soil particles and ameliorating the effects of slope steepness.
Wattles are used as water flow dissipaters, trapping sediment
when located prior to Drain Inlets (D.I.) etc. Wattles are
highly effective when they are used in combination with other
surface soil erosion/re-vegetation practices such as surface
roughening, straw mulching, erosion control blankets, hydraulic
mulching and application of bonded fiber matrix or other
hydraulic soil stabilizers. |

Dust Control Agents
Soiltac & Durasoil by Soilworks |
|
|
|
SOILTAC® by Soilworks is a polymer-based emulsion
used primarily to stabilize all soils from dust and erosion.
It is specifically engineered for ease of use for large commercial
projects down to smaller residential applications. It can be as
simple to apply as watering the ground. Furthermore, Soiltac®
is designed to work its way down into the soil to maximize the
penetration depth. The result is a thicker protective barrier
with a more rigid and stable base. Once cured, Soiltac® becomes
completely transparent, leaving the natural landscape to appear
untouched. Soiltac® results are based on the application rate
used. Modest applications can create a light temporary surface
crust that is permeable by water and is useful for dust control
needs. On the other hand, heavy applications can generate
results similar to the qualities of cement. Most importantly,
Soiltac® is a truly biodegradable product that is completely
environmentally safe to use.

allowing for immediate use upon its application. Furthermore,
Durasoil® has the unique ability to be reworked and still
maintain its dust controlling properties. Any equipment capable
of spraying water can safely be used to apply Durasoil® without
any mess or damage to the equipment. Even in freezing and wet
conditions, Durasoil® can still be applied regardless of weather
conditions or season. Durasoil® can be applied to any soil or
aggregate and effectively suppress dust all year round. From
intense-use military tank trails to gravel driveways, Durasoil®
is actively solving dust control challenges throughout the
world’s industrial, military, commercial and residential

Curlex® Blankets by American Excelsior
Curlex blankets consist of unique softly barbed, interlocking,
curled, Aspen excelsior fibers. They are weed seed
free. Curlex blankets are available with a variety of environmentally
sensitive and/or stronger netting types to match job site
requirements. There is a green color coded plastic
netting for applications requiring UV resistance strength and
longevity.
The photodegradable Quick Mow™ netting is
recommended for urban, golf course and certain roadside
projects. It is color coded (white) to identify it as a rapid
break-down, polypropylene netting designed for use in areas to
be mowed. Also available is a FibreNet™, 100% biodegradable
netting, for use in critical environmentally sensitive areas. |

Curlex® Sediment Log® by
American Excelsior
Curlex Sediment Logs use
excelsior fibers to reduce hydraulic energy & filter
sediment-laden runoff. (Bioengineered Sediment Logs). Water
filters through (not underneath) the diameter of the porous,
interlocked fiber log matrix. As it does, velocity is naturally
reduced and sediment is collected on the upstream side of the
excelsior fiber log. Install Sediment Logs over bare soil
and/or biodegradable & permanent erosion control blankets,
on steep slopes as a wattle, around drains for inlet protection
or around jobsites for perimeter control.
Sediment Logs are extremely flexible and contour to the terrain
to maintain intimate contact with the sub-grade. In
addition, they come with six other benefits; lightweight, no
trenching, no weed seeds, no disposal hassles, re-usable and
they hold their shape.

Silt Fence |
|
Specially developed fabrics on supporting posts, are designed
for efficient control of sediment run-off from construction
sites. This sediment, left unchecked can clog and pollute
native waterways and damage natural areas. Controlling the
run-off (an increasing environmental concern) is advantageous to
owners, contractors and engineers who face the economic costs
associated with site sediment loss. Installed correctly in the
field, the sedimentation control fabric in silt fence
structures, functions as a filter and a run-off flow velocity
check. Fine-grained sediment is trapped by the fabric while
storm water run-off may pass through the fabric at a moderate
rate.

Greenfix
|

Organic erosion control
blankets have a natural ability to absorb and retain water while
providing an ideal microclimate for the growth of vegetation.
They resemble the soil in their ability to absorb solar
radiation and prevent overheating. After years of erosion
control, and after helping to establish strong vegetation,
organic blankets decompose and join the natural soil, providing
nutrients in the process.
The GREENFIX name has a long history of quality
and performance when answering erosion control problems.
Since the 1970's, GREENFIX has been a leader in blanket
manufacturing in the erosion control industry throughout Europe.
As a pioneer of erosion control straw blankets, they have
brought their experience to the United States.
Manufacturing a quality erosion control blanket
is the main concern of GREENFIX AMERICA. Their blankets
are designed to meet the needs for a wide range if erosion
control and re-vegetation problems. For protection on
slopes, channels, shorelines, mine reclamation projects,
long-lasting turf reinforcement, and specialized landscape
projects, GREENFIX AMERICA has the blanket that provides
solutions. Their line of blankets, made from a variety of
natural straws, coir fiber, and polypropylene fiber can promote
effective biological stabilization and revegetation.
GREENFIX AMERICA blankets prevent soil loss, retain moisture,
encourage germination, and promotes ideal growth conditions.
Their bio-blankets, made from natural fibers and bio-degradable
components, can meet the demands for environmentally sensitive
site applications.
GREENFIX AMERICA blankets are designed for simple
and effective installation. Each roll is individually
wrapped and labeled with an "Installation Guide" to ease on-site
construction. Applications for blankets range from gradual
to steep slopes, low to moderate flow channels, and low impact
shorelines. For all applications, the proper preparation
of soil surface is most important for ensuring blanket
performance.
